SHIRUDO Martial Arts Academy was established in 2014 by a Family of Martial Artists in particular a Father and Son team with a rich and long history of Martial Arts experience between them. Primarily established for people who were looking for something different in their lives other than just fitness gyms, SHIRUDO is based on contemporary Martial Arts.

SHIRUDO offers a comprehensive training experience by incorporating multiple martial arts disciplines under one roof. Each style is specifically designed to complement and enhance the development of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, whether for self-defence, fitness, competition, professional fighting or just self-development

The academy offers the following key martial arts programs:

  1. Our flagship style of Shirudō-Ryū is characterized in its unique hybrid nature by a mix of hard and soft techniques and incorporates both circular and linear movements into its curriculum, with the hard, and powerful striking techniques of punches, kicks, and blocks, focusing on speed, economy of movement, adaptability, mobility, close-range combat, and a strong philosophical foundation on breath and harmony. On top of this strong base, it then combines the softer open hand circular techniques for offensive self-defence, controlling the opponent by incorporating joint locks, grappling, takedowns, and throws, derived from the strongest techniques of Karate, Jujitsu, Hapkido, Judo, and Boxing.
  2. Shirudo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a ground-based martial art that emphasizes leverage, technique, and submissions. In SHIRUDO Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,        practitioners learn how to control an opponent, escape positions, and submit them using joint locks and chokes. This system focuses on: Self-defence: Techniques to neutralize threats and protect yourself in real-life situations. Positional control: Understanding positions like guard, mount, side control, and back control, and how to use them for offense or defence. Submissions: Mastering arm locks, chokeholds, and other joint manipulation techniques.  Transitions: Smooth movement between positions, often utilizing sweeps and escapes. Sparring: Live rolling that enhances a practitioner’s ability to think and react under pressure.

BJJ is known for being effective for smaller or weaker individuals in confrontational situations, as it focuses on technique over brute strength.

  1. Shirudo Kickboxing Shirudo Kickboxing combines elements of traditional kickboxing with practical self-defence and competition techniques. It is a striking art that focuses on powerful punches, kicks, knee strikes, and elbows. Key components of Shirudo Kickboxing include: Striking techniques: Development of proper form for punches, jabs, hooks, uppercuts, kicks (front, roundhouse, low kicks), and knee strikes. Footwork: Agility and movement are essential for both attacking and evading strikes.  Defensive techniques: Blocking, parrying, and slipping to avoid incoming strikes while positioning for counters. Combination drills: Blending multiple strikes into fluid combos to overwhelm opponents. Conditioning: Intense cardiovascular and muscular endurance training, making it effective for fitness as well as fight preparation.

Shirudo Kickboxing helps practitioners build powerful striking skills while increasing stamina, strength, and flexibility.

  1. Shirudo Boxing Shirudo Boxing focuses on the sweet science of boxing, emphasizing precision, technique, and footwork. Boxing is one of the most fundamental striking arts and is central to both self-defence and competitive fighting. In Shirudo Boxing, students develop: Punching techniques: Mastery of the jab, cross, hook, uppercut, and body shots.  Defensive movements: Slipping, bobbing, weaving, and blocking punches to avoid damage. Footwork: Creating angles and maintaining proper distance to control the fight’s pace and positioning.    Head movement: Learning to dodge and evade strikes by using head movement. Combination drills: Developing fluid combinations that create offensive pressure while staying defensive.

Boxing is often considered the foundation of striking arts, and Shirudo Boxing enhances a fighter’s ability to control the pace of a match, with fast, accurate punches and excellent defensive tactics.

  1. Shirudo Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Shirudo MMA is a hybrid martial art that combines the best techniques from various disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, and Boxing. The program is designed to create well-rounded fighters who can compete in the cage or defend themselves effectively in any situation. Elements of Shirudo MMA include:

Striking: Integrating techniques from Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai to strike effectively in stand-up exchanges. Grappling: Learning takedowns, clinch work, and submissions, combining Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling techniques for controlling opponents on the ground. Transitions: Moving between striking, clinch, and grappling phases seamlessly, with an emphasis on adaptability in all ranges of fighting. Cage control: Understanding how to manage distance and control an opponent in the clinch or against the cage during MMA competition.  Conditioning and fight strategy: Developing the mental and physical toughness to endure intense rounds, manage energy, and execute game plans.

Shirudo MMA provides a complete and dynamic system for those who want to excel in professional mixed martial arts competition or prepare themselves for real-world encounters.
